Over the past 6 months my output has taken on a shift of focus from creative constants into construction of a permanent home. From making jewelry to manual labor; trading in cute outfits for Carhartts. This refocus of energy has turned me down route I never would have imagined a few years ago. We are putting down permanent roots, building a cabin at 10,600’ below the Ruby Range northwest of Crested Butte.

Since moving to the Gunnison Valley almost 12 years ago I have lived in around 20 different houses; from Gunni to Mt. CB, to every neighborhood in the town of Crested Butte, & all the nooks & crannies in between. Constant instability in housing creates an intense resiliency, forcing one to adapt to living out of crates & bins, owning minimal furniture, constantly moving your life in and out of storage units & being really good at tetris-ing a truck. My current life spans inconsistent movement between a rental house in Gunnison, tending a garden & landscaping at Tuckers house north of Gunni, a workshop in Riverland, a storage unit, working two jobs in CB, Tuckers house in CB & building our house in Irwin. I live out of a well loved duffel bag, constantly packing clothes for days at a time. My life is a scattering of toothbrushes throughout half a dozen spaces. I am fortunate.

The townsite of Irwin was established in the late 1870s as a silver-mining boomtown. This pocket of paradise where we are building a permanent home sees some of the heaviest snowfall in Colorado. The building window is mid June through late October & shrouded in snow the other 7-8 months of the year; access for half of the year is via a 7 mile snowmobile ride.
When I say “we” are building a house, I mean exactly that. Our full boots-on-the-ground construction crew consists of a skinny blonde girl (who me?!), my 71 year old father & my amazing partner Tucker who somehow finds the time to bust ass, keep spirits up & momentum going on top of his full time job. (Plus the helping hands of a few incredible friends & family when we send out the 🆘 #halp.)•

My current life spans inconsistent movement between a rental house in Gunnison, tending a garden & landscaping at Tuckers house north of Gunni, a workshop in Riverland, a storage unit, working two jobs in CB, Tuckers house in CB & building our house in Irwin. I live out of a well loved duffel bag, constantly packing clothes for days at a time. My life is a scattering of toothbrushes throughout half a dozen spaces. I am fortunate.

The townsite of Irwin was established in the late 1870s as a silver-mining boomtown. This pocket of paradise where we are building a permanent home sees some of the heaviest snowfall in Colorado. The building window is mid June through late October & shrouded in snow the other 7-8 months of the year; access for half of the year is via a 7 mile snowmobile ride.
When I say “we” are building a house, I mean exactly that. Our full boots-on-the-ground construction crew consists of a skinny blonde girl (who me?!), my 71 year old father & my amazing partner Tucker who somehow finds the time to bust ass, keep spirits up & momentum going on top of his full time job. (Plus the helping hands of a few incredible friends & family when we send out the 🆘 #halp.)•
